Wildlife From Our Windows

Depending on what time of year it is this is everything you can spot right from the comfort of Highwinds Lodge.

Front & Back Fields

In the front field depending on what time of year you visit you will be able to spot a flock of sheep, horses (and a shetland) and a herd of cows!

In the back field you will be able to spot a herd of cows, horses, a herd of goats and a flock of sheep.

Please do not feed the animals in either field, some of the animals will be on a special diet and you may make them ill by doing so.

In the Skies & at the Bird Feeder

Depending on the time of year you visit you will be able to spot Sparrows, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Common Chaffinch, Song Thrush, Crows, Wagtails, Swallows & probably lots more that I’ve not spotted yet (If you do spot something else, let me know).

There is an Eagle that sometimes roams the front field and forest between us and the River Lundy too so keep your eyes peeled for that!

In the summer months the Swallows nest on the house and give a great display of swooping around the house eating a lot of the midges!

Wildlife Around the Lodge

There’s plenty more wildlife to spot around the lodge, if a Highland Cow is on your bucket list to see there is a herd that roams between the cattle grids further down our little road. For a more comprehensive wildlife spotting guide please visit our Wildlife Near Fort William page
