Walks That Start from Highwinds
We feel so lucky living where we do and on this page we hope to share with you a few little adventures you can have without having to get in the car. From exploring forests to climbing the highest point in the United Kingdom.
The North Face of Ben Nevis
The North Face of Ben Nevis offers some of the finest mountain days in Britain. With a decent amount of fitness and a little bit of confidence with some non technical scrambling accending Ben Nevis via CMD Arete is a day you’ll never forget.
If that seems a bit much for you then another option is to take the long path all the way up along side Allt a’ Mhuilinn to the CIC hut to get truly stunning views of the incredible North Face and take in it’s scale from the base of it.
If you have a bit more techical know how then you will know all about all the North Face has to offer with some of the ridges and climbs and Highwinds truly does offer an incredible basecamp to get stuck into the mountain.
Blar Meanbh
At the bottom of our little road over the bridge is a really special forest to explore. It’s off the beaten track and parts of it will take your breath away. There’s countless different routes and paths to explore, I recommend you head into the forest at least once (ideally head in a few times) while you’re at Highwinds for a great little adventure.
Cruim Leacainn
This is the hill out the back of Highwinds, it offers fantastic views of Aonach Mor, Carn Mor Dearg & Ben Nevis. You start along the road then take a right and follow a track up, through some fields and a forest before a bit of a boggy slog for the final accent.
Some careful route finding is needed as there isnt a clear path and there be a gate or two that needs to be hopped. Here’s the route I took when I did it.
